Solar Forecasting

Real-time generation forecasts for single PV systems, utility-scale solar plants, and entire networks over the next hour, day, and week.
Proa’s advanced algorithms produce optimal forecasts by combining live SCADA data, satellite and sky camera imagery, and numerical weather prediction models into a detailed digital twin of the PV system to estimate power output. Our model applies optimized weights to dynamically respond to prevailing weather conditions and data availability, ensuring the most accurate data is used at each timescale. At Proa, we can generate forecasts across three time horizons - Intra-Hour, Intra-Day, and Intra-Week - tailored to your asset and market needs.

A key component of our short-term solar forecast is the use of skycams, which capture cloud images every 15 seconds, providing a reliable data source to precisely determine cloud size, height, and shadow projection impacts on solar generation.

Key Forecast Inputs
Live SCADA Data
Real-time site data is used to model the live site availability and to estimate both persistence and predictive forecasts of future availability.
Satellite Imagery
Satellite photos taken every 10 minutes are processed to estimate cloud movement.

Skycam Imagery
Images of the sky taken every 15 seconds are processed to track the motion of clouds local to the site, helping to predict short term resource availability.
NWP
The outputs from various NWP models are used to forecast the resource availability for a site, for longer horizons.
