NT Capacity Forecasting

Proa’s world-first solution to tackle solar uncertainty and variability

Unlock the potential of utility scale solar in Outback Australia with Proa’s NT capacity forecasting system. It’s the tool that helps you operate your asset in a scheduled manner to comply with market obligations.

This intelligent system forecasts guaranteed capacity levels from solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) hybrid systems. By using capacity forecasts, you’ll comply with Section 3.3.5.17 of the Network Technical Code (V4) in the Northern Territory - see more at this link.

You’ll also significantly reduce the CAPEX requirements for your project by reducing the size of the required BESS.

How it works?

The Northern Territory’s Generator Performance Standard (GPS) requires solar farms to operate in a ‘scheduled’ manner.  During each dispatch interval, solar farms must sustain the exported power at their dispatch target. With industry standard forecasting methods not suited to this challenge, we’ve developed a highly innovative solution that allows solar + PV systems to operate in a scheduled manner.

The system dynamically generates capacity forecasts for solar plants by monitoring:

  • weather conditions

  • performance and availability of plant components

  • BESS firming capacity (accounting for state-of-charge, charge/ discharge power and cycle rate limits)

  • compliance with the Generator Performance Standard metrics

Data is used from a variety of sources, including sky cameras, geostationary satellite and weather models, to calculate available capacity in future dispatch intervals with a high degree of certainty.

The system also includes a high redundancy design and failover mechanisms to ensure 99.99% availability for the ‘brain’ of your power plant.
